Sturgeon Bay a Challenge

The 2015 State Tournament proved to be one of the toughest events all season long. The timing of this event caught the smallmouth in their fall transition modes and is arguably the most difficult time of the year to catch these fish. Some fish were still up shallow feeding, but the majority of the fish were in a transition mode where they tend to move out over deeper water, suspend, and chase baitfish.

The most successful techniques among the Nation anglers were Alabama Rigs, Swimbaits, Tubes, and Drop Shots. The majority of the fish brought to the scales were caught on an Alabama (umbrella) Rig. Those that figured that bite out early were generally the ones that placed near the top of the leaderboard.
